Rev. James Forbes (1813-51) was Melbourne's first Christian minister settled as such, and Victoria's first Public educationist (see also the Port Phillip Christian Herald archive). Forbes was the minister of The Scots' Church, Melbourne and withdrew in 1846 to found the Free Presbyterian Church of Victoria, and also what is now Scotch College in the year of his death.
